Study this comparison of three types of computer.

We compare things using adjectives in two ways.

1.       Comparison -> Ciri khas “Than”

We can compare one type of computer with another.

Kita dapat membandingkan satu tipr komputer dengan komputer lainnya.

Example

Minicomputers are bigger than microcomputers

Mainframes are more expensive than microcomputers

2.       Same -> Ciri khas “as ... as”

For negative comparisons, we can say:

Minicomputers are not as big as microcomputers

Mainframes are not as poweful as microcomputers

3.       Superlative -> Ciri khas “The”

We can compare mainframes to all other types of computer.

Kita dapat membandingkan komputer mainframe dengan seluruh tipe komputer yang ada.

Example

Mainframes are the biggest computers.

Mainframes are the most powerful computers.

Mainframes are the most expensive computers.

Key:

a.       One syllable adjectives

We add –er and –est

Example

Faster, Fastest

b.      More than one syllable adjectives

We use more/less dan the most/the least before the adjective

There are different types of computer. The largest and the most powerful are mainframes computers. Minicomputers are smaller than mainframes but are still very powerful.

Microcomputers are small enough to sit on the desk. They are the most common type of computer. They are usually less powerful than minicomputers.
